BIO

Kavita is an Indian-American screenwriter and director based in Los Angeles, CA.

Originally from a small town in South Texas, Kavita’s lifelong curiosity about human contradictions has shaped her penchant for storytelling. Her work focuses on the evolving narrative of American identity, the multifaceted nature of love, and the complexities of gender dynamics.

Parekh wrapped production early March 2026 on her third short film, Mother Tongue, a Tasveer x Netflix Film Fund grant recipient and a part of the 2025 Sundance TAAF Scholarship cohort. The film is set to premiere at Tasveer Film Festival in October 2026.

In February 2025, she wrapped production on Ponderosa, a short film written by Lee Bennett, which is currently wrapping up post-production.

In 2021, Parekh won the Makower Post Production Grant for her film "Two Tickets to Mars,” and was nominated as Best Cinematic Director at New York’s Blackbird Film Festival. After screening the film at Austin Film Festival, she returned to serve as a judge for the 2022 Austin Film Festival narrative submissions.

In 2020 she co-founded the production company Big Cow Studio where she and her partners create high quality promotional and educational content that reaches global audiences.

Parekh's 6 year long experience as a script supervisor informs much of her on-set leadership style. Most notably, she supervised the Greg Jardin-directed thriller It’s What’s Inside, which premiered on Netflix in November 2024, as well as Matt Shear’s Fantasy Life which had its nationwide theatrical release on April 3, 2026.

She holds a BFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
